Her steps broke into a full run, though it was slightly awkward in her heels, but decades of practice made up for that. Ren wasn't spotted quickly so she started to veer off the direct path, not knowing which way he'd have gone. Where did he find solace in a time like this? Before she knew it, she was lost, and mist was surrounding her. Her panic at being lost was entirely swallowed by the thought that she was losing time. Every moment longer it took her to find him, was a moment longer that Ren spent blaming himself and diving into dark thoughts. She didn't want him to suffer, didn't want him to get shaken up to the point where he wasn't like Ren anymore.
A part of her wanted him to stay cocky and confident, strong and easygoing, because that was the Ren she'd always known. That was the Ren she loved in spite of his flaws. Maybe his flaws were one of the reasons she loved him, he was real, he was like her. She felt like she knew him, could see glimpses inside him, and he was bright and shining with these good intentions and morals. He was her guardian angel, since the day she'd met him. Although it pained her to want him in ways she couldn't have, didn't deserve, it was enough to have him by her side.
Now he wasn't by her side. Now she was trying to be on her own the way he was, strong and sure and full of purpose. Her hands had already been quivering as she moved, and her heart was beating so fast that her breath came in heaving gasps of air when she shouldn't have been winded. Nothing was familiar, she couldn't even go back to ask for Jun's help. She'd past that point and now she actually had to do it on her own. It was do or die and when she realized where she was, she wondered which option would come first.
Would Ren really have gone into the mists? She told herself it was feasible, if he didn't want to be seen or found by anyone. It wasn't impossible, at least. But, it wasn't entirely likely either. Her heart sank as she realized she'd likely gone the wrong way. Everything inside her wanted to scream, fresh tears sliding down the tracks where old ones had dried. Just take me to him, please...
