*Years of Rping: 8+
Name: Apollo
*Age: Thousands of years
Gender: Male
Bloodline: Garlanger - Lycanthrope
Preferred mantel (pick three): Asiatic Black Bear, Kodiak Bear, Polar Bear
Court Preference: Unseelie
Appearance:
For the most part, Apollo remains in his mantel form. He is on the larger side of the scale in terms of his species, coming in at over a thousand pounds - a mass of pure muscle with strength to rival that of a Sidhe. Standing nearly 5 feet at the shoulder while on all fours, and 10 feet when standing erect, Apollo can definitely be considered quite intimidating. His deep brown fur remains relatively clean and clump-free due to constant bathing – a mannerism that points back towards his faerie heritage. His eyes, a liquid black, seem, for the most part, intelligent.
On the rare occasion that Apollo returns to garlanger form, not much changes. His body retains its fur, though the thickness dwindles a bit. His overall bear facial structures are retained, though slightly morphing of the mouth, jaw, and tongue allow for horribly guttural and nearly indecipherable speech. His upper body takes on the physique of an impossibly large man, with muscular arms and five-fingered hands capable of gripping a weapon. His lower body retains a few more animalistic features, with his legs re-arranged in a manner that gives him hocks and bends his body forward. It is clear that even in this form, Apollo is capable of moving on all-fours with ease.
His overall body is incredibly dense and broad – riddled with thick muscle and heavy fur. However, in fae form, Apollo’s height drops quite a bit – to a mere 6’7”, bringing him down to Sidhe and goblin garlanger height. In both forms, Apollo retains only one article of clothing with him – a large silver bracer that takes up the entirety of his right forearm. The bracer is inscribed in a language long lost – even to Apollo himself.
Personality:
Thousands of years of isolation have left Apollo more bear than faerie in terms of mannerisms. Though he still remembers how to speak, doing so feels inherently unnatural to him and he often has to pause to formulate his sentences ahead of time, almost as if he were converting from animal thought to fae speech. He is far more fluent with writing, though his penmanship leaves a lot to be desired. When conversing with other fae, Apollo usually opts to remain mute, leaving his companion to decipher his body language or random scribbles in the dirt with one of his bear claws.
Apollo is a loner, though his faerie instincts leave him craving fae companionship more often than he would like. He is distinctly incapable of holding long conversations, though the bear is an apt listener. He loves the sound of faerie speech and will often sit there and listen for hours should he have a willing speaker. However, Apollo never goes out of his way to mingle with the faerie folk. More often than not, it is that faerie who approach him out of curiosity. After all, it is not every day they see a bear with a large metal cuff around his right forearm, or a Kodiak bear who refrains from hibernation in the winter. Aside from those attributes, Apollo remains, for the most part, indistinguishable from regular bears.
When one does converse with him, they will find the bear to be a simple creature in terms of mannerisms. He refrains from excessive speech, writing, explanation, or movement. Everything is done in its simplest form – even his sentences. He is blunt and completely honest, all remnants of courtly rituals and mannerisms completely lost on him. He has no use for silly riddles, large words, or tricks of the tongue – it is likely that those who speak to him in such a way will find him unresponsive. Even so, his vocabulary is broad (born from years upon years of listening) and his intelligence lends well to deciphering the natural faerie way – he just chooses not to pander to it.
The bear is a quiet beast – very rarely does his temper flare. He is lazy in most respects, opting to sleep most of his days away with little concern for the faerie courts or the fae that inhabit them. At the same time, he finds himself frequenting the mouth of the Unseelie cave with subconscious hopes of meeting someone worth listening to. He is attracted to children and other garlangers – especially those of human blood. Also, anyone from the mortal realm fascinates him, as he has never been there and will likely never go. Although Apollo hates no one, he is likely to avoid ever approaching a Sidhe simply because he finds them too exhausting to deal with.
Years upon years of age have reduced his childhood memories to dust. Apollo lives in the present; very little of his past is remembered though he has been known to store away bits of wisdom. He has seen much and heard much in his lifetime, though the garlanger has never concerned himself with any of it. He has, essentially, no fear.
*History:
Apollo remembers nothing of his childhood. Memories of his mother (a bear garlanger like himself) and his father (an actual bear) have long since been washed away. Though his mother raised him in the darkest depths of the Unseelie caverns, Apollo does not remember it. Nor does he remember setting off into the wild the moment he was able to survive on his own. He has been there ever since, occasionally visiting the Unseelie court but rarely setting foot within in.
Approaching three thousand years of age, what Apollo does remember are bits and pieces of experiences that made a significant impact on him. He has seen many strange things in his lifetime, memories of such are mere mists in his mind – resulting in eerie cases of déjà vu and nothing more should they be repeated. Though he remembers a trip to the Isle of the Eloquent many years ago, details of the isle and the way in which to reach it have been lost in the recesses of his mind.
Approximately fifteen hundred years ago, Apollo attached himself to a young Unseelie boy – a Nimbus that he pledged his undying loyalty to. This boy was the one who initiated a Pomme de Sang bond, though Apollo entered into it willingly. From that point forward, he was at the boy’s side constantly. He aided him in battle, stood by his side as the boy climbed the ranks of the Unseelie court despite his stained blood. They were inseparable for hundreds of years, until one day, with only a soft goodbye, the boy released him from the bond and vanished to the mortal realm. Apollo did not grieve. He merely returned to the wild, where another thousand years slowly whittled away at his mind until memories of the boy were reduced to nothing more than dreams.
Now, the return of the Sluagh to the mists has brought Apollo back to his old ways of seeking interaction in an attempt to satiate the curiosity building within him. While he still refrains from entering the Unseelie caverns, it is not uncommon to see him nestled not too far from it.
