Even in the Bible it says that the Earth was once covered in darkness. At that time, demons ruled the earth. Then the Divine and the Goddess created light and that had destroyed most of the demons. However, there was still a large amount of demons in the world and therefore, the Divine powers had created a hole in the universe.
That hole was another universe and it was where the demons were exiled. The demon worlds were still connected to the original universe, but the connections were portals. The Divine powers had created mankind and mankind had invented rumors and make believe stories about the demons.
Those legends were created because some of the demons had leaked through, but the powers that were connected to the Divine were able to erase the humans' memories; their memories were foggy and askewed because of the memory dust.
The portals were reinforced with strong magics, only someone with intention could break the portals' magics. Unfortunately, the portals were intentionally broken and mankind hadn't stood a chance. Wars spread throughout the entire universe. More planets were discovered and invaded the earth's solar system.
