Eliminating the following characters:
Ashori -He's annoying, no muse for him at all.
Hawk -Same as above
Jaejin -No point in having him if Hawk isn't around. I'll wrap up his threads then have him leave.
Niobe -She's boring. I was going to have her lose all faith in her court and do other stuff etc, including carry out the task she was given by Nocticula. Still, there hasn't been much opportunity for her to act on the task, and I don't seem much use for her in the future. As for her charm, it can vanish with her or be given to someone else. I don't really care.
Riley -Still deciding if I care for her or not....and I don't.
I'll be wrapping up all their stuff tomorrow and then deleting them. Just letting you know ahead of time.

Skylla said you didn't have to delete anyone! I am sorry I misunderstood the way it was written.
I am going to plead the case of Jaejin if nothing else. Just because a plot won't work out the way you planned doesn't mean it can't be fun going a different way.

I know what Skylla said. My decision to delete them is my own.
Alanor is frustrating to me merely because any characters that don't follow a set sort of personality rules don't fit in here. It's been this way for ages, I thought I would be used to it by now but I'm not. I'm eliminating the characters that don't have any real special meaning to me. (Hawk and Jaejin do, but they belong on my roleplay board, not here. It just doesn't work here.)
I'll give Jaejin's deletion some thought, but I can't promise anything.

I feel ya there, bro.
Okay, no, but seriously, I totally understand. It's been like this for as long as I can remember, but it's also the reason I almost didn't come back when Alanor reopened. I think there's a way to make those types of characters fit, but it won't ever be the same, if you know what I mean. In the end, I came back because I really missed the site and I missed the people even more, but -- yeah. That's why I think you should do whatever you're most comfortable with. I know the feeling. :c

I guess my sampling of boards has been pretty limited (I've played on five or six in my life -- while they were all very, very different, that's still not many to go by), but my experience has been that this is true everywhere. Or at least, everywhere that has a specific setting. I think Alanor is narrowed further by its loose basis on a book and even looser basis on Celtic mythology.
I hope that doesn't come across as critical: I mean it to be more encouraging. You're an awesome writer, Evelyn, and I think there is more room to expand and create within the existing structure than you think -- it just takes time with each character. I'm sad you're getting rid of Niobe, because I really enjoyed reading her thread and I thought she was so unique and cool. I would have never imagined Ren and Jun would fit in so well, but they work perfectly (these, I think, have had the most opportunity to grow). Your ability to play characters with wholly different personalities is uncanny. I think you just need more time with each one, to really find their places here!
I do feel ya, though. Sometimes a character just doesn't work out -- especially when you take them from one world into another. I definitely had that experience before on boards that were actually pretty similar, and was very upset to discover that I had completely destroyed a character that was very special to me, by forcing him into a setting that didn't work. I just didn't realize what was going to be integral to his personality until I got him there. The same thing is true in the book I am writing -- I have gotten really attached to, and had to scrap, probably a dozen characters at this point.
Only you know if you're at the point that you have to do that. But I hope you give the characters a chance that are just waiting to be explored, and aren't cluttering up your muse.

Nah, it's true. Some settings seem more restrictive than others, especially if you're accustomed to playing the types of characters that don't quite fit, but it's not the problem of the setting or the site. When I got the message from Skylla, this was one of the things that I really had to think about and also the reason I almost didn't come back -- because back in the old days, the types of characters I tended to play never really fit into Alanor (and they still don't, though in an entirely different way now. Long story). It's why I had to create completely new ones this time around and why I'm totally out of my comfort zone, lmao, which isn't even a bad thing -- it's just a lot more taxing. I empathize with Evelyn because playing here has never come easily to me (and yet I stick around anyway, LOL. I guess I just really love you guys).
I agree with Dema about your characters, Evelyn! I think they're really cool and I'd love to see more from them, but if you're not having fun -- I mean, that's why we do this, right? I know how sometimes characters just don't really click, and sometimes it's just about finding the right game for them. I hope everything works out for you so that I can roleplay with you again, because it's literally been yeeeeeeeears. :P

Thanks guys. A part of this may have been on impulse, because my life sucks right now. On the other hand, I'm just severely frustrated. Lately I've really needed a place to satisfy my creative impulses, but Alanor doesn't do that for me. I have a lot to say but really it would only lead to frustrating me more...so I'm just going to drop it. What I'm going to do is concentrate on the characters that have potential to actually do something. Ren and Jun are the only two I really have muse for at the moment, so I'll keep them around. Haley does NOT fit in here at all, but she has a special place in my heart, so I'm going to attempt to keep her around.
Everyone else is going to be eliminated, including Riley, who I really enjoyed playing for her first thread, but she's already boring to me.
I have someone in my catalogue of characters that actually is connected to Ren and Jun...especially to their past, whom I might bring in, but I'm still deciding. At least he'll definitely fit in if I do an will make for an interesting side-plot.
It's probably for the best I drop my characters down to four. I was having a hard time keeping up anyways.

@ Tigeress My old board SPHERE, which is where Hawk and Jaejin came from. It shut down a while ago due to inactivity but I've been slowly making changes to it and I'll be reopening it soon. If you're curious and want to poke around it, you can do so. Just be aware that a lot of it is going to change over the next few days. The basic concept will stay the same though. SPHERE

<3 I know your feeling. I tend to keep characters separate from different genres unless I'm totally comfortable with modifying them a little bit. Otherwise it... irks me to see them act unlike themselves or put in situations that they totally would not normally be in.
On a sidenote- I may pop up when you reopen *rubs hands* this seems interesting. I've never done a really military-style rp before but I think the concept is open enough that I could stumble into it =D
